MISSION: The National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) brings recognition to the achievements of women artists of all periods and nationalities by exhibiting, preserving, acquiring, and researching art by women and by teaching the public about their accomplishments.

THE OPPORTUNITY: The Chief Advancement Team Leader is a newly created role, responsible for the alignment, planning, managing, and execution of a comprehensive, diversified, and strategic development, marketing, communications, and digital engagement efforts to further advance the museum's mission with the mandate of significantly growing and diversifying sources of revenue from all constituents.
The Chief Advancement Team Lead will provide strategic vision and an innovative approach to this endeavor, ensuring that all teams under their leadership are fully integrated to tell NMWA's story in innovative, compelling, and impactful ways, tailored to a broad range of constituents and visitors and driving growth in engagement and philanthropic support.
The Chief Advancement Team Leader reports to Executive Director Susan Fisher Sterling and is a member of the leadership team. Reporting to the Chief Advancement Team Leader is a team of 17. The Chief Advancement Team Leader will also work closely with board members and an engaged network of national and global committees who serve as ambassadors and supporters for NMWA in their respective communities.
FUNDING: NMWA has a current annual operating budget of approximately $17 million, and an endowment with a current market value of approximately $100 million.
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS:


  • A history of creating and leading successful national advancement programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate and steward relationships with high-net-worth individuals and their representatives, foundation program officers, corporate leaders, and others.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a strategic partner to a chief executive.
  • Frontline major gift fundraising experience.
  • Ability to execute an advancement plan and evaluate outcomes using a metrics-based approach.
  • Ability to serve as a visible ambassador for NMWA in the philanthropic community nationally, promoting the museum and attracting donors and advocates to advance its mission.
  • Working knowledge of current innovations in fundraising techniques and philanthropy, and an ability to translate those innovations and techniques into action.
  • Ability to build upon existing marketing, communications, and digital engagement operations.
  • Working understanding of earned media strategies and marketing, branding, and communications processes.
  • Working understanding of digital communications including website, email, and social media strategy.
  • Demonstrated ability to build, manage, and lead large, diverse teams, to cultivate talent, and to ensure an inclusive culture.
  • History of working effectively with advisory and board members.
  • Familiarity with the local and national philanthropic communities.
  • Competent in budgeting and revenue goal setting.
  • A genuine interest in NMWA's mission and prior experience in arts/cultural organizations, gender equity spaces, or related organizations. Candidates from other backgrounds will be considered.
  • Familiarity with Tessitura and Sage Intacct is a plus.
  • A bachelor's degree is required, an advanced degree is a plus.

    The annual compensation range for this role is $220,000-$250,000 commensurate with experience and accomplishments, plus attractive benefits.
